Welcome to where I am, where my kitchen's always messy, a pot's (or a poet) always about to boil over, a dog is always begging to be fed. Drafts of poems on the counter. Windows filled with leaves. Wind. Clouds moving over the mountains. If you like poetry, books, and music--especially dog howls when a siren unwinds down the hill-- you'll like it here.

MY NEW AUTHOR'S SITE, KATHRYNSTRIPLINGBYER.COM, THAT I MYSELF SET UP THROUGH WEEBLY.COM, IS NOW UP. I HAD FUN CREATING THIS SITE AND WOULD RECOMMEND WEEBLY.COM TO ANYONE INTERESTED IN SETTING UP A WEBSITE. I INVITE YOU TO VISIT MY NEW SITE TO KEEP UP WITH EVENTS RELATED TO MY NEW BOOK.

PUSHCART NOMINATION from Asheville Poetry Review

The Asheville Poetry Review has nominated my long poem sequence "Searcher" for a Pushcart Prize! You can find it in this year's issue, or maybe I will post it, or some sections from it, on this blog.

Wow this is so great! I'm clapping for you, what an honor.

I'm looking forward to hearing you read on the 18th at the Burke County Public Library, I work there and I've been helping Viranya with the program. I'm sure it will be just wonderful.

Thanks, all! But I'm not expecting anything to come of this. Just enjoying the nomination and knowing that Keith Flynn liked the poem well enough to nominate it. I've had several nominations over the years and the "editors" at Pushcart never chose a one of them for their yearly publication. Because this one is so long and space is always at a premium, I doubt Searcher has a chance, but still, I'm pleased with the nomination. Mindy, I'm looking forward to seeing you Saturday! Thank you, again, my fabulous friends.

Congratulations!
It would be great if you posted the poem.

It's always great to see fellow writers succeeding at that they love best.

I'm ashamed it took so long for me to make a comment. First, it was so great to touch the hand of a cyber-friend who has encouraged me so much; second, it was a revelation to listen to poets reading. It's been many years since I had that pleasure. Finally, it was an honor to meet someone who has succeeded in making more than a ripple with her verses in this prosaic age. Thank you for letting our little community have an opportunity (through Viranya and the others involved) for a taste of an art so few have a chance to experience.

Joan, it was so good to meet you at the reading on Saturday. You have such a luminous face! I wish you could be at all these events I do. I'm taking a break from blog posting today to do some housework, but I hope to get my photos from Saturday up, and that piece of yours that I find so moving.
